Non-verbal reasoning questions can be challenging, especially if your child is encountering them for the first time.

Our complete practice package offers over 100 such questions, providing plenty of practice opportunities to help your child sharpen their skills and achieve higher scores.

CAT4 Words Questions (Verbal Reasoning)

Choose the word that belongs in the same group as the first three words.

Question 4

cow     deer     antelope

A. cheetah
B. wolf
C. camel
D. eagle
E. lizard

The first three words are cow, deer, and antelope. These are all animals that are herbivores, meaning they eat only vegetation.

Therefore, we must select the answer choice that is also an herbivore. The correct answer is camel.

Question 5

purchase     buy     acquire

A. item
B. store
C. mall
D. shopping
E. obtain

The first three words are purchase, buy, and acquire. These are all words that have the same meaning. They are synonyms.

Therefore, we must select the answer choice that is also a synonym or a word with the same meaning. The correct answer is obtain.

CAT4 Numbers Questions (Quantitative Reasoning)

Each question provides a series of numbers that have a rule. Use the rule to determine which number will come next in the series.

Question 6

75        60        45        30         ?

A. 25
B. 10
C. 12
D. 20
E. 15

The correct answer is 15.

Explanation: In this series, the numbers decrease by 15 each time. So, we start with 75 and subtract 15 to get the next number.

30 – 15 = 15

Question 7

0          0          6        0        12       0       ?

A. 0
B. 18
C. 16
D. 12
E. 20

The correct answer is 18.

Explanation: In this series, we have two distinct patterns. The first pattern is numbers that increase by 6 every other turn:

0, 6, 12, …

The second pattern is the number 0, which remains constant throughout the series.

Since the last number in the series is 0, it means the next number must be from the first pattern and increase by 6:

12 + 6 = 18. Therefore, the correct answer is 18.

For young students, math doesn’t always come naturally, and some may struggle with it.

However, the more your child practices these types of questions, the better they’ll become at solving them.

Question 8

1          30        3          20        5          10       ?

A. 9
B. 5
C. 7
D. 20
E. 10

The correct answer is 7.

Explanation: This series has two alternating parts. First, it starts at 1 and goes up by 2 each time (1, 3, 5, …).

Second, it starts at 30 and goes down by 10 each time (30, 20, 10, …).

The last number given is 10, so the next number is from the first part, which is 5 + 2, equaling 7.

CAT4 Shapes Questions (Spatial Ability)

Choose the answer choice that contains the given shape. The shape must keep its size and orientation.

Question 9

Free CAT4 Level Y Practice Question - Shapes

Explanation: The shape is visible at the left top of the figure.
