The following sample questions are also available in two other formats:

Part 1

Question #1 โ€“ Figure Classification

The Figure Classification questions show three pictures that share a connection or a characteristic. Choose the answer that shares the same connection/characteristic from the answer choices.

Free CAT4 Level G Practice Question - Figure Classification

The correct answer is B.
In this question, the pattern is as follows:

  • Each picture contains one small figure inside a bigger figure.
  • The number of sides of the small and big figures is always equal to 10.
  • The inner figure is always filled with grey color.

Only option B fulfills all the conditions.

Question #2 โ€“ Figure Matrices

Figure Matrix questions are either 2ร—2 or 3ร—3 matrices comprised of different pictures. In each row and/or column the pictures change the same way or follow the same rule. Choose an answer that goes in the empty box in the matrix following the same rule.

CAT4 Level G Sample Question - Figure Matrices

The correct answer is C.

In each row, the shape in the second column is formed by adding two lines crossing each other over the shape in the first column.

The shape in the third column is formed by removing the lines from the second shape and adding dots at each end of these lines. The dost will be outside of the shape if the linesโ€™ ends are outside, and they will be inside if the linesโ€™ ends are inside of the shape.

So, the shape in option C meets the given criteria.

In each of the top rows, three figures consist of bigger outer shapes and two smaller shapes within each figure.

One of the smaller shapes is a minimized, identical version of its outer shape.

We need to look for an answer choice that has the exact same characteristics.

In the real test question, the middle answer is the correct one, where there’s a bigger rectangle and a smaller identical rectangle inside it.

In the question from the practice package, the correct answer is (C), where the small pentagon matches the outer bigger pentagon.

Part 2

Question #3 – Verbal Classification

Each question provides three words that are alike in some way. Decide how they are alike, and choose the word that belongs in the same group as the first three words.

bulb | core | seeds

The correct answer is (E) โ€“ grain.

A bulb, core, seeds, and grain are all examples of the centermost part of a living organism/type of vegetation.

Question #4 – Verbal Analogies

The first pair of words go together in a certain way. Choose the word that goes together with the third word similarly.

locomotor โ†’ action : stationary โ†’

The correct answer is (B) โ€“ immobilized.

Locomotor refers to an action or physical movement. Stationary refers to something or someone who is immobilized. It may or may not be stuck.

Question #5 – Number Analogies

Each question provides two pairs of numbers with a certain mathematical connection and another number that shares that connection with one of the answer choices. Find the missing number for the third pair.

[50 โ†’ 19]       [40 โ†’ 17]       [30 โ†’ ?]

Correct Answer: 15

Within the provided number analogy, the value on the right side of each pair is derived by dividing 5 and adding 9 from the corresponding value on the left side.

This pattern is evident as 19 results from dividing 50 by 5 and adding 9 (50/5 + 9 = 19), and 17 is obtained by dividing 40 by 5 and adding 9 (40/5 + 9 = 17).

To find the subsequent number, we use the above logic, divide the number given on the left side by 5, and add 9 (30/5 + 9 = 15).

Therefore, the correct answer is 15.

Many students find Number Analogy questions tricky since the connections between the pair of numbers are not straightforward and take time to figure out.

The best way to tackle this challenge is through practice. The more your child practices, the quicker they’ll recognize patterns and solve these questions accurately.

The complete practice package offers over 70 such questions, giving your child plenty of opportunities to sharpen their skills and improve.

Part 3

Question #6 – Number Series

Each question provides a series of numbers with a rule. Use the rule to determine which number will come next in the series.

2          10        5          6          30        15        16        ?

The correct answer is (D) โ€“ 80.

In this series, the pattern is as follows: first, multiply by 5, then divide by 2, and add 1; then multiply by 5 again, then divide by 2, and add 1, and so on.

The pattern is: x5, รท2, +1 | x5, รท2, +1, โ€ฆ

The last two numbers in the series are 15 and 16. 15 is smaller than 16 by 1, so the following number should be 16 multiplied by 5.

16 x 5 = 80.

Therefore, 80 is the correct answer.

Spatial Reasoning Sample Questions

Question #7 – Figure Analysis

Each question shows a paper folded several times and then punched with holes. The answer choices contain unfolded papers with punched-in holes. You need to determine which of the answer choices is the final product of the unfolded punched-in paper.

Free CAT4 Year 11 Practice Question - Figure Analysis

The correct answer is (A).

Figure Analysis Answer

Question #8 – Figure Recognition

Choose the answer choice that contains the given shape. The shape must keep its size and orientation.

CAT4 Year 12 Practice Question - Figure Recognition

The correct answer is (E).

The shape is visible at the middle right side of option E.
